All commercial, municipal, institutional and industrial establishments in Willistown Township are required to recycle. A “commercial establishment” includes any property, building and/or unit of a building used for commercial, institutional or industrial purposes, including, without limitation, a building that contains more than four individual dwelling units.
It is mandatory to separate and have collected the following: high-grade office paper, aluminum, corrugated paper, and leaf waste generated at such establishments. Collection of the materials to be recycled and municipal waste, with the exception of leaf waste, shall be made at a minimum of once every other week by a registered hauler chosen by the business or institution. Leaf waste shall be collected curbside or at a similar location by a registered collector, at a frequency of no less than once per month.
Willistown Township would like to remind commercial/institutional property owners that if they hire a landscaper for grounds maintenance, the landscaper is required to either compost leaf waste on-site or deliver it to a state-permitted leaf composting facility. This requirement helps ensure proper leaf waste management and supports our community’s environmental goals.
Annual written documentation and certification to Willistown Township of a total weight of materials and the types of materials recycled in the previous calendar year is required by January 31 of every year. Such establishments may comply with these reporting requirements by requiring their trash and recycling haulers to provide said documentation and certification directly to the Township.
