On Street Parking Reminders During Snowstorms
While we've had a mild winter so far, the Public Works Department would like to remind residents, parking on the roads maintained by the Township is prohibited during snow emergencies. This allows the public works crew to clear the roads quickly and efficiently during storms. See the Willistown Township Code Chapter 108: Snow Emergencies for more information.

Winter Hike in Okehocking Preserve Saturday, February 4, 10 am to 11:30 am
Join Willistown Parks & Recreation and CRC Watersheds Association for a moderate to challenging hike at the Township’s 185-acre Okehocking Preserve. Please wear sturdy shoes and dress for the day's weather, keeping in mind the hill climbs and open meadows offered by this beautiful nature preserve. We’ll get lots of fresh air walking through meadows, old field, and mature woodlands in this section of the Ridley Creek valley. You’ll hear about these habitats and their management, the partnership efforts of Willistown Parks and Recreation and CRC Watersheds, and any winter wildlife that’s out and about. Please be sure to park at the 996 Delchester Road parking area and walk the gravel drive to the Leash Free Field where we'll gather before the hike. Dogs are welcome on leash. Our hike leader, Mary Hundt, has worked on behalf of Willistown residents and its landscape for the past 25 years, starting as the first full-time employee of Willistown Conservation Trust in 1997 followed by 18 years as Director of Parks and Recreation for Willistown Township. Before undertaking conservation work, she was a landscape designer at Montgomery Nursery in Bryn Mawr. She was a life-long resident of Willistown until last year and was elected Township Supervisor in the early 2000s. Mary’s collaboration with CRC has been ongoing for almost as long. She is a former Vice President of CRC, serving from the fall of 2000 through January of 2005, and she received CRC’s Environmental Stewardship Award in 2009. Her first tree planting when working for Willistown Conservation Trust was with CRC at Okehocking Preserve circa 2001. The Parks and Recreation office as well as CRC’s headquarters are at the Garrett Farmhouse at Okehocking. Mary graduated from Kenyon College in Gambier Ohio with a B.A. in English and Fine Art followed by Temple University, Ambler, where she started in horticulture and received a B.S. in Landscape Architecture. An entertaining narrative for the brisk winter hike will come from Mary's enthusiasm for the Willistown community and countryside along with her love of Okehocking Preserve. Please contact Mary with event questions and stay tuned to the Township’s social media or call Mary for a recorded message in the event of inclement weather at 610-647-5300 x224. Walk-ins welcome. Preregistration preferred.

Paoli Library News February 1 is World Read Aloud Day, a good time to think about the importance of literacy. Paoli Library has been recognized as Gold Star libraries by PA Forward,® a literacy initiative of the Pennsylvania Library Association. PA Forward® resources help libraries thrive as community centers of information, technology, and learning that will fuel educational and economic opportunity for all Pennsylvania residents. The PA Forward® Star Library Program encourages libraries to incorporate the five key literacies—Basic Literacy, Information Literacy, Civic and Social Literacy, Health Literacy, and Financial Literacy—into their programming activities, displays, and events. In support of Basic Literacy, the library provides storytimes that introduce early literacy skills, after-school and summer reading programs for school-aged children that promote family literacy, and teen and adult book groups. The library supports Information Literacy through access to current technology, online resources, and one-on-one technology instruction. Resources for Civil and Social Literacy include programs on local and national history, English language learning classes, and teen programs focused on civic engagement. Library programs that foster Health Literacy include online meditation classes, and presentations by health professionals on topics such as balance and bone health. The fifth key literacy, Financial Literacy, is introduced to young children through age-appropriate books and a “Money Matching” activity pack. For adults, there are programs on topics such as home selling and Medicare planning. More information on the Star Library program can be found on the PA Forward® website. Paoli Library program information is available at the library and on our event calendar.
